The Rancher Cap is our warmest traditional wool cap, built for serious winter weather. Compared with the Original Stormy Kromer Cap, it features 200-gram Thinsulate™ insulation in the crown and longer fleece-lined earbands for added warmth and coverage. When the earbands are pulled down, they fully cover your ears and extend farther down the neck.
-
Yes. The Rancher Cap's extended earbands fully cover your ears when pulled down and provide additional coverage at the back of the neck.

The Rancher Cap is built for people who put warmth and function first. With 200-gram Thinsulate™ insulation, fleece-lined earbands, and extended coverage, it's made for those who spend real time outdoors in the cold. Whether you're ice fishing, snow blowing, working outside, or simply refuse to let winter slow you down, the Rancher is built to keep you comfortable in harsh conditions.
-
No. The Rancher Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The earbands are lined with fleece, so the wool outer shell never sits directly against your skin.

Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Rancher Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

This was the cap I was meant to wear on my Yellowstone in winter trip. I first bought an Original Kromer (Order SO10066561) 1/25/24. Upon field testing I found it didn't adequately protect my ears from wind and cold. I contacted customer service who recommended the Rancher Cap in one size smaller. I placed that order 2/9/24 (SO10068044), but, alas, it didn't arrive before my trip. I've since worn it on a cold, windy day and found it protects my ears well and have got compliments on it. I saw a number of Yellowstone guides wearing Stormy Kromers.

The hat comes in a nice box with the Stormy Kromer logo on it, and the hat inside is wrapped in a classy tissue paper also with the logo on it. The minute you take the hat out of the box you can feel the quality, and of course see it. I used a sewing type measuring tape and measured my noggin as instructed. This I did multiple times and came up with 23 inches. The sizing chart suggested a 7 3/8 and the fit is perfect. Being from the west I wasn't exposed to Stormy Kromer products. But I'm glad I've found them now! The hat looks great in a kind of retro way, it's built old school (like a tank) and it keeps my head toasty warm..and my ears also when needed. I highly recommend this hat and have no doubts it will last for many years. Thank you Stormy Kromer for manufacturing a great high quality product right here in the USA!!!

My second Kromer cap was a Charcoal Rancher. Not only does it look good, it’s also practical and beneficial for those cold temps. A friend/co-worker of mine whose name is Frank introduced me to Kromer caps. We used to do maintenance work in minus 10 degree freezers. I told him “Don’t you wish we’d had our Rancher Kromers back then?”

Has to be the warmest hat I own. Wind does not go through it or blow it off. A really nice fit.

Tried the original and I liked it so much that I wanted another. Man this one is awesome too!! I will use this one for when it’s real cold out and I have to be out in it. These hats are super comfortable. Made in the USA by beautiful women who take great pride in every aspect of the hat. Love this company!! Don’t buy a fake one get a real stormy Kromer it’s worth every cent and they back all their products. Highly recommended best cold weather hats on the market. It will not be my last one that’s for sure. Next up hunter orange. Thanks guy. Excellent job !!

I tried on several hats at Sherpers before I bought my first Stormy. 7 1/4" is perfect for my size 7 head. Well made hat, proud to wear it on colder days.
