The Rancher Cap is our warmest traditional wool cap, built for serious winter weather. Compared with the Original Stormy Kromer Cap, it features 200-gram Thinsulate™ insulation in the crown and longer fleece-lined earbands for added warmth and coverage. When the earbands are pulled down, they fully cover your ears and extend farther down the neck.
-
Yes. The Rancher Cap's extended earbands fully cover your ears when pulled down and provide additional coverage at the back of the neck.

The Rancher Cap is built for people who put warmth and function first. With 200-gram Thinsulate™ insulation, fleece-lined earbands, and extended coverage, it's made for those who spend real time outdoors in the cold. Whether you're ice fishing, snow blowing, working outside, or simply refuse to let winter slow you down, the Rancher is built to keep you comfortable in harsh conditions.
-
No. The Rancher Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The earbands are lined with fleece, so the wool outer shell never sits directly against your skin.
-
Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Rancher Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

I purchased this cap for hunting in cold, windy conditions... my previous Stormy Kroger cap did not quite keep the wind at bay, but this will be perfect for those winter hunts!

Hate to write a bad review. The hat in-of itself is a high quality thing. The customer service is great. For all the talk of measuring and size increments though, the marked sizes bear no relation to actual sizes. As in, not even kinda. (Average size head). The hats are extremely small. Went through hoky poky of exchange, but story short, loose loose for us both. ~ Hi David, We're really sorry you had this experience with our products. If you'd like to discuss further, feel free to send our team an email at [email protected]. SK ~

Absolutely wonderful hat! Quality is great! I normally wear a seven so that is what I ordered and it was tight, but I stretched it with my hat stretcher and it is perfect now.

I have enjoyed my Original Stormy for a few years, and am so happy I ordered the Rancher. It is really a super well made and warm hat. Thank You to the crew at Stormy... You did a great job.

While it may be a cap laden with the folklore and tradition of some bygone era when a train engineer couldn’t keep his cap on his head, that’s about all it is… The ear flaps are not nearly heavy enough; any stiff breeze and the wind gets right underneath and to your ears. The cheapest WalMart stocking cap would be more effective at keeping your ears warm. Of course, a stocking cap wouldn’t be nearly the fashion statement of a $60.00 Stormy Kromer cap. Add to that the dry-clean only…. ~ Hi Bill, We're really sorry our cap didn't quite meet your expectations. If you'd like to discuss other options, we'd love to chat - [email protected]. SK ~

I love this cap. I read a lot of reviews that said to order one size above your normal - I don't think that would have been necessary as it is just a bit big. I wish that I had ordered my normal size, but even with it being a hair big, it still feels great and keeps my head warmer than the fleece cap that I was wearing. Add a neck gaiter and you are set. I love my Stormy Kromers!!!

As an elk guide fir about 25 years, I was always looking for a quality, warm, late season hat. I found it with the Rancher. I great warm hat with a brim. Love to be able to drop the flap for my ears. I'm very happy with my purchase.
