Frequently Asked Questions

Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is designed for cold-weather comfort, but how warm it feels depends on the person and the conditions. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.
-
No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.
-
Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.
-
For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

I have two grandsons aged 7 and 10 who live in their Original Stormy Kromer Caps all winter. They live in Colorado and proudly tell anyone who asks where they got their great hats!! Thanks for making a product that is well made and warm but also "super cool".

I had earlier slammed the Original saying it had no ear flaps. I am so sorry, and that is not true. They do pull down over the ears. Hooray ~~ Happy to hear you got the earflaps to work for you! SK~~

Very disappointed in the fact there are NO EAR FLAPS ! For the price, Ear Flaps would be nice. ~~Our Original Cap does have earflaps (as do a majority of our caps). The earflap is the part that is tied with the string at the front. In order to deploy the earflap, insert your thumb between the earflap and crown of the cap and pull down. No need to untie the front or flop the earband over...just pull. There is a video available on the Original Cap web page that shows how they work. If you still have questions, you can always call our customer service team and they can help - 888-455-2253. SK ~~

Huge fan of this hat, I had a similar one years ago and when I went in search of a new one I came across Stormy Kromer which apparently invented this style of hat. So glad I decided to go with this brand and will certainly be purchasing again, probably will go for the Rancher next time for a step warmer even.

This was the second cap I bought as I was so impressed with the first. Now my son in law is following in his father in law's footsteps with the Stormy Kromer Cap. They're both thrilled to be out there in the snowy weather looking the part and staying warm. Thanks so much for these lovely caps.

Just lovely and it's so warm. Such a great made in the USA product. Your shipping was speedy and the cap well packed. Congrats to your high standard and keeping that up all these years.
