Frequently Asked Questions

Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is designed for cold-weather comfort, but how warm it feels depends on the person and the conditions. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.
-
No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.
-
Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.
-
For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

I bought an "original" Stormy Kromer cap late last winter...have only worn it a time or two. I also have a TRUE original Kromer from the '50's that belonged to my grandfather. This cap has a taller crown and the soft indestructible bill. I was disappointed that the true functionality of the cap was neglected for style. The fit is just not the same...this new one just sits on top of my head One just has to experience the true original cap to understand the real difference. I may try a rancher...but only if it is more than a nod to the original. The "look" is good...it's just NOT the same. -O'Brien

I bought my first Kromer in camouflage for cold weather duck hunting. I liked it so much I bought two more, blaze orange for deer hunting and a black cord for "JUST PLAIN WEARIN". My son is into "old school" and saw my caps, first word out of his mouth was SWEEEET! Now he wants one or two or ten. Guess what he'll get for Xmas. To all Kromer owners out there....HAPPY WEARIN'! -MK

I was really worried about how this cap would look. But once I sat it on my noggin I knew I'd found THE hat... I'm sitting by a fire wearing my Stormy Kromer even though I live on the Coast of North Carolina and it's like 70 Degrees.... This hat is amazing and I couldn't be happier... I will be ordering the Wax Cotton. -Dutch

Just got my original Stormy today. I ordered the 7 3/8 which is just a tad loose now that my hair is very short, but I tightened it with the strings and now it's "just right". I have wanted one of these for deer hunting because you can pull the flaps down to cover the top of your ears (the part that gets cold), but keep the ear-holes open so you can hear that buck trying to slip by. I really like the lifetime guarantee, too! -Outdoorguy

I just got my "Stromy" about a mouth ago - and I love it and wear it everywhere - in the woods and to the office. Warm soft and clearly durable - what else could you ask for. I first saw a "Stormy" in the movie Mash - Col. Blake wore one. My son calls it my "Elmer Fudd" hat - I try to tell him that I am a trend setter - of course it is important to try and embarrass your children in public at every opportunity... ; ) Kids, they have no sense of style or history. I'm very pleased with this purchase...James from New England -seer

I now have 10 with two more m.i.a. This includes a rare blaze orange camo that I have never seen on anyone else, or in stores or catalogs. Eat your hearts out fellow deer hunters! -Dr. Strange
