There's a reason this cap is legendary. The wool blend resists the elements and the 100% cotton flannel lining helps keep you warm all winter. The ingenious pull-down earband provides comfort and flexibility. The six-panel construction keeps the cap on your head, where it belongs. And our wide range of sizes guarantees a great fit. No wonder it's lasted more than a century.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

  • The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is designed for cold-weather comfort, but how warm it feels depends on the person and the conditions. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.

  • No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.

  • Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.

  • For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.

  • Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

This hat is great! I bought just before the Minnesota firearms opener and it has virtually been on my head since. With the bitter cold of winter's in northern Minnesota, this is the perfect hat for those late season bird hunts. Great product!!! -The Grouse Hunter

I had always wanted a real "Elmer Fudd" hat and like with "Elmer" it kept my head warm while hunting. Now I will not go out deer hunting or snow shoveling without it: and made in the USA to boot! -Dr.D

As soon as I removed it from the shipping box and tried it on, I knew I had purchased a great winter hat. It fit my head perfectly (size 7 1/2). The construction of the hat is first class- no whimpy materials or sewing- will last me for years. Thank you Stormy Kromer!!! -MIke

I saw the SK Original in Partridge Plaid at my hometown home goods store. Put it on while I shopped, loved it, bought it. I wear it everywhere and constantly get comments from other women on what a great hat it is. Bonus points when I found out it was made in Michigan. Its very warm, stays put, and looks good. -IheartMI
