Frequently Asked Questions

Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is designed for cold-weather comfort, but how warm it feels depends on the person and the conditions. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.
-
No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.
-
Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.
-
For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

I have a friend who is a retired railroader. He has spied my Stormy and now, I have to keep a close eye on my cap, to prevent it from sneaking off. I am amazed at this hat and its cold weather ability. I used to use stocking caps all the time when I Ice fish, but now just pull the hood over the cap, and it works great. -Randy Kruger

This is is a poor designed cap. You have to be able to keep your forehead warm when its sub zero. The way the visor is incorporated on this cap is wrong. In order to keep your forehead warm you have to have this cap pulled down so far than you cant see anything cause of that visor. My dad always complains of headaches when its below zereo. Your forehead needs to be warm to keep rest of body warm. Not a cap for sub zero conditions! -cattle rancher

My brother Gary introduced me to Stormy. I live in northern Minnesota and operate a four season resort. I'm outside a lot. Stormy keeps my head warm and the ear flaps work very very well. My first purchase was the new "Partridge Plaid", currently own an Olive Green and a Brown Stormy. I wear all for different occasions. Can't say enough good things about Stormy Kromer, they fit well, look great, quality is out standing, made in the U.S.A. doesn't get any better then that. I get lot's of complements and of course other comments,i.e. "Elmer Fudd". I simply relate the Stormy Kromer story to the non wearer's and they become impressed with the story/history, but mostly Made in the U.S.A. That is the frosting on the cake! Keep up the good work .Wonderful product line. My next purchase, the Black Stormy. -Ernie - Royal Starr Resort Nevis, MN

The hat is extraordinarily made. I especially like the Gore Tex lining in a hat so comfortable. It will always be treasured.(Please note: The GoreTex model is available exclusively through Cabela's.) -Ignatzmouse

Made in America and SHOWS it !!!Bought one for my daughter's boyfriend at Christmas and sneaked a look at it before I gave it to him. I knew I needed one immediately just from the quality of construction.Mine came quickly (great service to boot) and it fit and felt like a million bucks. Wear it every day in the North Shore area of Lake Superior and it performs magnificently. Thanks for a great product and for staying the course of the American Dream! -Tom
