Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is designed for cold-weather comfort, but how warm it feels depends on the person and the conditions. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.
-
No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.
-
Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.
-
For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

I love the hat. It fits great. The care that went into building my hat is obvious. I have been referring SK to all my friends. -Jason

I love the fit and comfort of the hat. I live in northern MN and this is the only hat I have been wearing this winter. The warmth has been sufficient for all but the coldest days. I will have to get a rancher style though to cover my ears completely. Don't like the looks of the rancher but i don't like cold ears either. If only the ear flaps were one inch longer. Would give 5 stars if the flaps were longer. love it otherwise. -WilRan

I stopped in the Ronning's store in International Falls, MN on my way to Ontario to hunt wolf. I was pleasantly surprised that they had an SK to fit my pumpkin (7 7/8). With this head, I buy any cap that fits. The cap kept me warm in the outdoor pursuit and I love the comfort and ease of the pull down flaps. I will be buying one in blaze for next years deer hunt. Congrats on a great American product! -Mick

Bought the oilcloth Kromer, after years of seeing positives about the Kromer caps, to use in cold weather Yamaha Rhino desert excursions. Ordered the 7 3/8 size I normally wear. It immediately blew off under speed. Found the ear flaps can't be tied down under the chin as I mistakenly assumed they would (why bother with the string ties?). The flaps also leave most of my ears exposed to cold when folded down as far as they will go.Well-made otherwise & still useful in the rain or snow as far as the weatherproofing goes, these apparently are not made to original Kromer dimensions & while it's still a decent around-town cap, it's not the piece of serious working headgear I thought I was getting for windy & cold conditions.Kromer Merc, any chance of returning to more usable dimensions with a wider bill?(Dear DJ - Thanks for your feedback. We'll certainly look into your suggestions. Just to be sure you are using the earflaps properly, they don't "fold" but pull down over your ears. Get your fingers between the earband and the crown and give a tug. For more serious ear protection we do offer the Rancher cap. - SK Staff.) -DJ

After finishing my 12 hour shift in a busy ER, I couldn't wait to get home and open the box to my first Stormy. It looked great, felt even better and fit like a glove! The hat melted into my cranium while my wife looked at me like I was nuts. After two hours, the hat is still on my head and I can't decide if I will try it out working the longhorn cattle tomorrow or take the dogs out hunting quail. Already looking at the next one to purchase. -Side

I just received my 1st Stormy over the weekend. All in all i am super impressed the quality and sizing are spot on. I will make one recommendation. I like my hats a little more form fitting and not as "boxy" as these seem to be out of the box. I ordered the hat one size larger than normal and promptly ran it thru the gentle cycle with cold water. This "broke it in" perfectly. the hat fits better than most of my normal ball caps and is UBER warm. -Thomas
