Frequently Asked Questions

Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is designed for cold-weather comfort, but how warm it feels depends on the person and the conditions. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.
-
No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.
-
Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.
-
For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

got a blaze orange kromer back in 2003. then bought a black one. i like to buy american made products and was happy the kromer was still around. i recently bought a green one and was disappointed to see they are made with imported parts. still a good hat but you lost a star from me. just hope in a few more years it doesnt say made in china on the tag.Note from Stormy Kromer - Thanks for your feedback...please keep in mind that imported doesn't just mean China...we get fabrics from Canada, Great Britain as well as the far east and also from here in the US. It all depends on availability, pricing, quality, and a number of other factors. Sourcing fabric in the US is incredibly difficult but we keep trying and always try to buy as many American components as we can. Thanks for your support. -indiana hunter

Misplaced or lost my grandfathers red/plaid Stormy Kromer of some 40 years old. Christmas of 2003 was given a new olive Stormy Kromer and it fits and good as Grandpa's. Keeping my noggin warm hunting or on cool days in Mississippi. Still my favorite cap, keep up the great noggin warmers. -Tido

Was very disappointed because this hat did not cover my ears completely for when I was outside. Was also disappointed the materials were imported. My husband, son and daughter-in-law all like theirs. She has the petal pusher and looks adorable in it. -Mander

Best fitting hat right out of the box I have had. Snug but not too snug, and warm - wow. I had to view the video on "how to use the flaps (I did it wrong at first) and then it worked great. The flaps are a little short for really cold weather (lobes get cold) but ear muffs will work well with the cap. For really cold weather get the Rancher version. Great to buy a great product made in the USA. -Daniel

I wasn't sure if i would find one in my size, i have a huge dome, ( 75/8) turns out that they make one or two sizes bigger than mine. Very comfortable. After I got the bill bent like I like it, it feels like i've been wearing it for years. Thanks SK for helping out the large headed guy. I also heard a rumor that santa is bringing me the Packers edition origional SK..... can't wait. -woody

I am proud to have bought a Kromer cap! It's outstanding that they are manufactured in the states!!!! Every time you buy one of these hats, you are putting food on an American's table!!! The day I bought my hat (original Kromer), it was 20 deg. outside and really windy. This cap would be perfect if you were working outside, but if your not planning on working hard....buy the Mackinaw for extra warmth. The ear flaps seem to be mostly a wind break for the ear tops. I will be ordering a Mackinaw cap as soon as funding will allow! Bravo, Great quality product!!! Rex (Kaukauna, Wi) -Rex
