Frequently Asked Questions

Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is designed for cold-weather comfort, but how warm it feels depends on the person and the conditions. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.
-
No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.
-
Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.
-
For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

I just received my third Stormy Kromer cap in the last year. I started with a Charcoal colored Classic Cap and then went with a Black Rancher. Both fit great and are very comfortable (unfortunately I didn't get too many opportunities to wear the Rancher since last winter was so mild). I got another Classic Cap, in Adirondack Plaid, yesterday. It was a birthday gift from my wife. She called Stormy Kromer directly to order it and was pleasantly surprised that an actual person answered the phone to take her order. As with my first two caps, this one fits great, is great looking and has that same Stormy Kromer comfort. I hope to add one more cap to my collection. I would like to get another Classic Cap in Red. To say the least, I've been Kromerized. Outstanding product. -Steve from Ohio

Working onboard a Great Lakes freighter gets really cold in the winter, both inside the wheelhouse and outside on deck. My Kromer cap is part of my required winter gear and I wear it during almost every watch in the wheelhouse, its better than wearing a knit watch cap. Also, its a good hat to get off the ship and hit the town in. Overall, best $40 I've spent. -GLpilot

I ordered a cap from LLBean (7-3/4, Hunter Green). When it arrived, I noticed a large wrinkle. I adjusted the lace. The wrinkle grew larger, and the eyelets slewed off to one side. Upon further examination, I found that one of the panels had been sewed as a quadrangle instead of a triangle.Assuming that this was just a slip by an inspector, I requested a replacement. When it arrived, it was exactly the same. At that point I decided that the problem was in the cutting pattern, and I returned the cap and requested a refund. From SK: We are so sorry to hear of your problems with our cap and for bringing this to our attention. We ship out a large number of caps, all made from the same patterns that go through the same quality processes and we have not been made aware of this before. If you have any more information you could provide to us to help us understand and visualize this problem and how it may have happened, you could send that info to [email protected]. -JGG

Love them! I have owned a brown cap for years and it still wears and looks just like it did 16 years ago when I first put it on my Bald head that fridgid day at the store. I just recently bought a black original and 3 blaze orange for my brother, nephew and myself, for hunting. Thank you Stormy for the quality products that stay true to our USA. -Uncle BOB

I LOVE my pedal pusher hat and I would like to purchase a few more!! I just wish they would make a SLOT in the back for my long hair to be pulled through...that would make it the absolute perfect hat for ladies! I would buy SEVERAL dress ones! Also, I suggest the make different colored petals to interchange on my hats! Thanks Stormy Kromer! I have had many compliments on it! -Terri

I own two Kromers, one traditional black and one tan. I don't see the tan color anymore. Also, my black has the Stormy Kromer and date in back but my tan one does not. I bought the tan one about 15 years ago. I guess it's a collector's item now. Both are the warmest caps you can wear and tough as a rangy bull pissed at being in a squeeze chute. -TJ Ranch in Texas
