Frequently Asked Questions

Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is designed for cold-weather comfort, but how warm it feels depends on the person and the conditions. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.
-
No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.
-
Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.
-
For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

Now have three Stormy Kromer hats, the most recent a Rancher Cap. All of them warm in this old-style winter we're having here in Michigan.I'd give it five stars but I've got a big head and Stormy manufacturers too few of its colors in size eight. If I could get an eight in green-black plaid or solid green I'd award five stars! -Jim from Washtenaw

I have been eyeing a Kromer for a few years and wife bought me one for my birthday and I love it. My son put it on in Buck season and I couldn't get it off his head. So I got him and my daughter each one for Christmas, then my dad wanted one too. It was 3 degrees yesterday went we hit the woods for a flintlock hunt. -Den from PA

Its Dec 24 2013, have had my first SK cap for over a year now and cannot say enough about it. It is by far and away the most comfortable cap I have ever owned and have many many caps/hats. I have two more to be delivered today, the day before Christmas and I have to say, I'm like a little kid anticipating santas arrival---I cannot wait until my original black SK cap and my new SK wax cap show up. The customer service I received from SK is second to none. My service tech was super nice and she could tell how much I appreciated the product and the service. God bless each and every one of you who pours your heart and soul into these products---I for one appreciate it whole heartedly and will continue to support your SK company until I die or you give me a reason not to. I receive compliments on a regular basis, mostly from ladies, the men who mock it are just simply jealous and come around eventually about the style. Frankly I don't give a darn what the men think anyway :^). From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the SK company and its dedicated employees. At 39 years of age, I can assure you that I will be a customer for life. God Bless you all. I wish I could buy everything with an American Flag quilted on the inside---I show EVERYBODY, that IT is the reason I spend my money on your products---Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!!!!!!!! -Ol Minnesota Boy

I bought my first Stormy Kromer 5 years ago when I saw someone wearing one. It is warm and I wear them every day of the winter season. I am a huge water fowler and I do not go to the duck blind without my Stormy Kromer on my head. The absolute best wool cap that is also made in the USA!!!!!!!!!!!!! -mbkwrh

For a girl I've got a big head. It's hard to find a well made, warm yet stylish cap that doesn't make me look like a complete dork. My SK does the trick. I love my cap!!!! Northern MN winter weather is no match for my Stormy Kromer! -Sisu Girl

I was surprised to find this hat to fit my head - I ordered a size 8 and it just makes a comfortable fit. I've worn this snow blowing, hunting, ice fishing and doing carpentry in winter and it is fantastic. The interior is exceptionally warm and dries out easily. The exterior is very water/snow repellant and keeps its shape through a lot of abuse and being stuffed into pockets, etc. The added bonus of the earflaps make this a no-brainer. Buy it - you won't regret it! -Yodeler
