There's a reason this cap is legendary. The wool blend resists the elements and the 100% cotton flannel lining helps keep you warm all winter. The ingenious pull-down earband provides comfort and flexibility. The six-panel construction keeps the cap on your head, where it belongs. And our wide range of sizes guarantees a great fit. No wonder it's lasted more than a century.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

  • The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is designed for cold-weather comfort, but how warm it feels depends on the person and the conditions. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.

  • No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.

  • Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.

  • For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.

  • Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

Original Kromer is a very comfortable, warm hat. I have one in olive and another in blaze orange. They're great for temperatures in the 30's and 20's Fahrenheit. The only drawback, which is why I give it 4/5 stars, is that the ear band does not work well with spectacles and does not cover the entire earlobe. Thankfully, they also make the Rancher which comes with a larger ear band, but it runs a bit hot when you're in the 20-30F temperature ranges.

What a great cap! The sizing was spot on for me and it is surely a timeless classic that I'm proud to own. The quality of workmanship is evident and the fact that it's made right here in the U.S.A. is icing on the cake!!

I was hooked when I bought my first cap three years ago. People would stop and ask what kind and where I got it. Yes I am still hooked. I now own 14 caps. And I will keep buying them. My children and grand kids also have their own caps

The mechanics of the ear cover are simple...just pull down; just pull up. This is important to me because I want outerwear that won't get in the way once I enter a building. This cap affords me the warmth and weather protection I need, plus the look of fashion I desire. Bonus...it's very comfortable!-J. Hood

Bought my cap several years ago for deer hunting in Pennsylvania. It works perfectly when hunting on the move. It's just warm enough without causing overheating. My only suggestion would be to add Gore-tex to this cap and it would be suitable for close to all hunting conditions.

Being a hair challenged i.e. bald dude, every year i have gone through the same task of trying to find a hat that would not only keep me warm and avoid being sick all winter, but also look good at the same time. I must have been living under a rock for the last twenty years but luckily i finally uncovered this gem of a hat. The fit and feel are perfect (sized properly of course). The look is timeless, and boy is it warm. After trying beanies, skull caps, and way too big fur lined aviators, this one feels just perfect. I will definitely be ordering more of these in different colors. Don't hesitate to order yours immediately. -Happy Bald Dude

I'm an avid hunter and, being an old bald guy (hunting or not), warm hats are important. For the past few years, I've hunted elk in the CO Rockies, and deer in S. Dakota, OK and TX. My first SK cap was a Rancher in blaze orange and my next one was a wax cloth cap. I have always had a problem keeping my head and ears warm until I found Stormy Kromer's. They are the warmest, most comfortable cap I've found and i've tried beanies, and several varieties of toboggans and watch caps. I now own 4 other SK's and I'm now ready for anything Mother Nature might throw at me. I'm hooked, and love my SK's. I don't see many Stormy Kromer's in OK but maybe things will change. -Ol' Hunter
