There's a reason this cap is legendary. The wool blend resists the elements and the 100% cotton flannel lining helps keep you warm all winter. The ingenious pull-down earband provides comfort and flexibility. The six-panel construction keeps the cap on your head, where it belongs. And our wide range of sizes guarantees a great fit. No wonder it's lasted more than a century.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

  • The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is designed for cold-weather comfort, but how warm it feels depends on the person and the conditions. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.

  • No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.

  • Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.

  • For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.

  • Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

Nice hat, warm, live the general design, especially the ear flaps. Custom sizing is nice, & fit was true to size. Only down side is there seems to be some extra material at the top--more than there needs to be. This makes the hat a little poofy on the top, & it could look better if it fit more snug tot he top of my head.

Concerned about the sizing I called Krommer and they werevery helpfull. The cap arrived two sizes up from my usual western style hat and is a perfect fit.

A cutomer of mine had one of your hats on and I knew, after seeing it, I had to order a couple as gifts. They are well made and were shipped quickly. I even asked for a women’s one for myself for Christmas!

This review covers the last 10 years of my first Kromer--the Original in Blaze Orange. I've worn this thing for literally hundreds of hours of deer stand sitting, grouse hunting, snow blowing, and general winter activities. It still looks like new. There is not a stitch out of place, and no fraying. I wore it all day today pheasant hunting again; it's the perfect hunting hat. It's warm, it satisfies the blaze orange requirement, and most importantly, the brim allows me to block the low winter sun so I can see deeper into the woods when deer hunting--the main drawback to the beanie style wool caps. I have noticed over the years, it has shrunk a little bit as it got wet with snow and/or sweat, which is a good thing because it was slightly large on me. In short, I love it and it led me to get my second one last year--the Adirondack plaid which is a little more dressy than the blaze. Thanks so much, guys for a great, USA-made product, that lasts!

Where to begin. These caps are comfortable and stylish, in my opinion. They are also warm. My first was purchased by chance at a local hardware store some years ago (shout out to Texas Corners Ace Hardware!). Last week, two more were ordered. The box was in near perfect condition, and it was clear that Penni packed these caps with care. Tiffany was an ace at getting me back in to my account this morning to write this review, as the two of us discovered a small glitch in the password system. Made in Michigan (YES!) and packed with care by a true Michigander! A great company, located in the greatest state in the union, selling a perfect product. Well worth the cost, with an excellent return on investment! Keep up the good work folk!
