Frequently Asked Questions

Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is designed for cold-weather comfort, but how warm it feels depends on the person and the conditions. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.
-
No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.
-
Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.
-
For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

I credit my original SK cap for keeping me alive when I fell through the ice during an ice fishing trip in February. The wool fabric kept my head warm while waiting 30 minutes for rescue. Now cleaned and still worn proudly. Flap up for above 20, flap down for below, it's a great product.

I have several of these hats. In fact Family members have worn them for generations. I have a picture of my Grandfather wearing one while hunting back in the 1940’s. A great product made in the USA. Now they offer it with embroidery. I purchased one for a Dear Friend for his 70th Birthday with his name and Birthdate on it. I know that he will pass it down to his Grandson someday. Thanks for doing such a great job with it.

Nothing beats an original for warmth and style in the fall. I have four of these and am always looking to add to my collection. If you've never worn one, just think of a kromer hat as a nice warm fitted glove for your head.

Just sent my new Kromer back for a refund. The fit and quality just isn't the same as my old Kromer that I still wear. I was going to order the Bergland hat in Adirondack plaid, but after sending the last hat back I'm very apprehensive to do so. I have even tried on the new Kromer hats at Cabela's and the just don't have the fit and finish of my old hat.

I just purchased my second original Stormy Kromer hat and I must say, they continue to amaze me. Stormy Kromer produces such an amazing and well built product. I just purchased the blaze orange so I can hunt with it. I was using a regular blaze orange hat to hunt with and my head/ears kept getting cold, but I hate wearing beanies and then I discovered Stormy Kromer. Each hat is unique because they are hand stitched and built in the USA. I will continue to purchase Stormy Kromer’s and you should too.
