  • Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.

  • No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.

  • Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.

  • For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.

  • Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

    I have a gray hat and it size 7-1/2 and fits nice slightly loose. The camo hat I just got same size 7-1/2 is tight. I love the vest and socks. I may need a bigger lid, but why are hat sizes of same product not consistent

    Americans currently living in Alberta: I bought two hats, one for my husband (the red and black), the largest size and one for my nine year old son, grey, size 7.5. They both love them! We were worried my husband’s wouldn’t fit because he has a huge head, but it is true to size! I bought my son’s to be a little bigger so that he could grow into it as he ages. The 7.5 is a little loose, but not too big for him to wear. They both love the fit, comfort and warmth. I thought the price point was also appropriate. You can’t beat a made in the USA hat like that! Immediately after receiving the hats I registered them, which was easy to do. I recommend these hats!

    Quality product. Perfect fit, thanks to their notation that the caps are snug and to add 1/8 for looser fit.

    First- I love this hat. Outstanding design and warm. I ordered 2 hats same size but different colors. Shipping was free and fast. Only issue was the size. I measured and ordered a 7 5/8. Found they were just a tad small. Ordered replacements in 7 3/4 and found the blaze orange fit perfectly but the grey/red was loose. Again I love these hats! I just wish the sizing was a bit more uniform.

    Bought this a year ago and got a 7-5/8... It was a little tight, but I figured it would stretch out. It didn't. So, I ordered a 7-3/4, and this fits perfectly. What does this have to do with a product review? Well, first of all, I must love this cap because otherwise I wouldn't have spent the money to buy another one. Second, it is really good quality as witnessed by the fact that it didn't stretch at all. And lastly, I really do wear a 7-5/8, so I would say that these fit just a smidge small. So if you are quite sure of your hat size, order it an eighth of an inch larger and you will probably be about right. Great hat, perfect for cool rainy days!
